DALE'S MESSAGE

Reconstruction of U.S. 95 in Payette County from Interstate 84 to Fruitland will begin in mid-May, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The section of U.S. 95 from milepost 60 to 65 will be rebuilt to include a new pavement surface. Additionally, a new pedestrian signal will be installed between 2nd and 3rd Street (milepost 64) to replace an existing one.

Two lanes of U.S. 95 traffic will be open during construction, with flaggers directing motorists through the work zone. Construction is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. in Fruitland's city limits, or the north side of project, from 3rd Street to 16th Street. The contractor will be working during daytime hours in the work zone located outside of Fruitland, or the south side of the project, which stretches from I-84 to 3rd Street.

From May 13 to May 21, trucks that are 35 feet in length or more will be restricted from using westbound I-84 exit 3, (U.S. 95 Fruitland/Payette), and instead be detoured to exit 9, or will need to use exit 376B in Ontario. Trucks that are oversized or need special accommodations through the work zone are encouraged to call the District 3 office at (208) 559-1275 or (208) 869-7689.

Message boards and signs will also be located on both U.S. 95 and I-84, around the work zone to alert drivers of speed reductions and detour information.

Idaho Sand & Gravel, of Nampa, is the contractor and the contract amount is $3,465,665.

The entire project is scheduled to wrap up in summer 2015.
